A Day in the Life: Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
JOINT GROUNDBREAKING OF US17 WIDENING & US17/I-526 INTERCHANGE
On April 11, 2011, Mayor Billy Swails, Town Council members, South Carolina Department of Transportation Commissioners, and a representative of the State Infrastructure Bank board gathered with community members at the former Laing Middle School to ceremonially break ground for the widening of US17 from the Isle of Palms Connector to Darrell Creek Trail, and for improving the US17/I-526 interchange at Hungryneck Boulevard. Both projects will be completed by early 2013.
This is what you can expect:
A new US17/I-526 Interchange bridge at Hungryneck Boulevard will separate through traffic from I-526 onto Hungryneck Boulevard and US17. Widening and enhancements along US17 between the I-526 overpass and Hungryneck Boulevard and US17 between the IOP Connector and Darrell Creek Trail will add a third lane in each direction, sidewalks, and a landscaped median.
